Maintenance and Adjustment / Rear Shock Absorber

The rear shock absorber should be checked for operation and oil leakage in accordance with the Periodic Maintenance Chart.

For various riding or load conditions the rear shock absorber can be adjusted for Spring preload, Rebound damping force.

Rear Shock Absorber Inspection

  • Press down on the seat several times to inspect the stroke.
  • Visually inspect the rear shock absorber for oil leaks.
  • If there is any doubt about the rear shock absorber, it should be inspected by an authorized Kawasaki dealer.

Spring Preload Adjustment

Spring preload can be adjusted by turning the ring on the rear shock absorber with the tool provided. To increase spring preload and stiffen the suspension, turn the adjusting ring clockwise. To decrease preload and soften the suspension, turn the ring counterclockwise.

*: This position is the fully seated position (turned fully counterclockwise).
**: In from the fully seated position (turned fully counterclockwise). This adjustment range may not exactly match the number shown in the table due to small tolerance of production.

Rebound Damping Force Adjustment

The rebound damping force adjuster is located at the lower end of the rear shock absorber.

  1. Rebound Damping Force Adjuster
  2. To increase damping force
  3. To decrease damping force
  • Using a screwdriver turn the rebound damping force adjuster clockwise to increase rebound damping or anticlockwise to decrease it.

NOTICE Do not turn the rebound damping force adjuster beyond the fully seated position or the adjusting mechanism may be damaged.
